Nothing says Halloween quite like scary gardens. Give your garden the spirit of Halloween by incorporating these ghoulish green thumb ideas.

        Have Pumpkins Take Center Stage

There are several ways to use pumpkins to create a spooky Halloween garden. Carve pumpkins and create a display with plastic spiders and artificial webs to create the right effect!

You can bring the Halloween fun to your porch with pumpkins, pillows and comfy throw blankets. Monogramming your porch pumpkins is a fun DIY project that will welcome guests and trick-or-treaters to your enchanting home.

You can also stack the pumpkins on top of each other on a rustic chair or stool to show off your cool work. Place battery-operated lights inside the pumpkins to grab more attention and create a warm or eerie glow.

        Embrace Unconventional Colors

Create a stunning contrast in your garden with dense, purple and black foliage. Despite what its name would imply, mondo grass is not real grass as it is actually a part of the lily family. This plant isn’t picky when it comes to sun exposure and its grass-like foliage forms dense tufts that slowly spread over time and require no mowing.

Mondo grass can also make a minimalist statement as a potted plant indoors or outdoors. Black bat lilies would be a wonderful addition to your list of Halloween plants too. These plants share a shocking resemblance to black bats, so they are a perfect choice for Halloween planting.

Ensure sufficient moisture and proper drainage to your garden area so these plants can thrive. Other plants that are Halloween ready would be low maintenance plants, also known as air plants, because they only require weekly watering.

        Consider a Venus Fly Trap

Venus fly traps are offbeat houseplants and the perfect garden addition for Halloween. They require a little different treatment but they can surely become your favorite once you learn how to care for them.

Gardeners in colder-winter climates should grow Venus flytraps in a moist environment and a terrarium should be used to create a moisture laden and ventilated atmosphere. These plants survive and thrive in moist environments and require soil that is a bit acidic. They do their best in bright sunlight but make sure they are not in direct light. If you’re growing them under artificial light then please make sure the plants are four to five inches away from fluorescent lights.

As the name suggests, the plant eats insects so make sure you have live insects inside the trap so the plant can flourish. Releasing live insects in a closed terrarium is the most efficient way to feed venus fly traps indoors.

Classic Fall Colors with Mums, Croton, and Begonias

Fall is almost here and the best way to combine the love for Halloween and fall weather is to add some beautiful plants to your space. Mums have gorgeous fall hues such as rich red, deep orange and golden yellow. These plants are versatile enough to be grown indoors or outdoors.

Croton is just as versatile if you’re decorating your porch, patio, balcony or front steps for fall. Croton features bold foliage accents that compliment mums, so these plants work well together.

Another way to take your garden game up a notch would be pairing these pants with other fall favorites such as flowering kale or ornamental peppers. For example, you could add croton to a pot with mums and purple fountain grass. You can even plant croton in a hollowed-out pumpkin for a festive planter!

Begonias are another great spooky season addition. These plants feature stunning, velvety vines that complement a ghoulish garden theme.

        Add Some Gravestones

Adding fake gravestones to your garden will amp up your Halloween-themed garden. Add Lighthearted or cryptic messaging to the stones for a ghoulish touch. Try adding led back lights to the area to transform your space into a photo-worthy backdrop.

        Use Skull-Shaped Containers

Skull-shaped containers and planters can give your Halloween inspired garden a festive edge. Try potting the plants mentioned here in your macabre planters. You could even use these containers for trick and treat.

        Put Bats in Your Trees

This Halloween, decorate your trees with fake bats and fun lights for a spooktacular touch. Place these items in your garden or hand them from your house for added fun.

        Halloween Garden Gnomes

Creepy garden gnomes are a must-have for a spooky Halloween display. There are so many gnome options to choose from like horror favorites featuring Jason Voorhees to creepy grim reapers or adorable black cats.

        Add Hay Bales

Another great way to add rustic Halloween charm would be to place bales of hay with your display. Place bales next to your carved pumpkins and be ready for the ghoulish charm to kick in!

You can shape the hay bales into spiders or scarecrow shapes. Check out pinterest for some inspiration to kickstart your Halloween garden project.

These fun ideas will make your Halloween garden memorable and spooky for everyone to enjoy.
