Halloween has come to a close, and it has left you and your family with a slew of uneaten candy. Between trick or treating hauls and leftover Halloween party goodies, there’s simply too many treats to eat in a reasonable amount of time. Luckily, there’s plenty of options for making use of each piece of candy sitting in your kitchen.

        Donate Your Delights

The most kind-hearted approach to clearing your house of candy is to donate it to a charitable group. There are a number of programs willing to accept any and all of your candy haul which will then be given to someone in need to help brighten their day.

Do some research to see which charities or nonprofits in your area are accepting candy donations. You can also consider bringing the candy to hospitals or food drives that can make use of the sweet treats.

        Baked Goodness

Need to up your baking game this holiday season? Adding leftover Halloween candy to your baked goods is the perfect way to add some flair to traditional sweet treats.

Mini chocolate hard shelled candies work great in sugar cookies- just add them to the batter before baking. And chocolates can be melted and poured onto pretzels to cool and become delicious sweet and salty treats.

These unique baked goods can be served at a Fall fireside party after you’ve pulled off your firewood covers and stoked the flames.

        Freeze It

One of the best parts about individually wrapped Halloween candies is how long they can stay fresh. This is especially the case when you take steps to properly preserve them by placing them in the freezer.

Freezing leftover Halloween candy is a simple way to keep your treats fresh for weeks or even months to come. You will want to seal them in an airtight container or dedicated freezer bag. Label each container with the date it was stored. Most candies can last up to a year in the freezer, but anything past that should be disposed of.

        Advent Calendar

With the holidays right around the corner, you’ll want to start thinking of creative ideas to celebrate the season. Advent calendars are a beloved tradition that are a breeze to build with the help of your leftover Halloween candy.

Start by dividing up a few pieces of candy for every day of November or December. You can purchase an empty, pre-built calendar and add the candy to each slot before sealing it shut. Save the excitement of opening each day for after dinner as a fun dessert reward.

        Crafty Candies

If your family has a creative streak, consider using your leftover candy for some arts and crafts masterpieces. You can kill two birds with one stone by making festive candy bar trees to ring in the holiday season.

Start by purchasing cone shaped floral foam pieces at your local craft store. You can then use sewing pins to attach wrapped mini candy bars to the “tree”, beginning with the bottom row and moving your way up. The result is a charming candy tree that you can use for decorating around the house or outdoors next to your game table covers.

        Treat Filled Trail Mix

Halloween may have come to a close but Autumn is still going strong, and there’s plenty of time left for Fall hikes with the family. Save some money by making your own trail mix for your hiking adventure using the hard shelled chocolate candies and chocolate covered raisins left over from Halloween. Mix together with a variety of nuts and you’re all set.

        Save it for the Holidays

Sweet treats aren’t just for Halloween. The Winter holidays are the perfect time to enjoy candies of all kinds, and you can save big on sweets by holding onto unopened trick or treat candy.

Holiday parties are a great way to get rid of that leftover candy quickly. Set up candy bowls throughout your home for your guests to snack on, and put together party favor bags filled with candy.

        Sweet Rewards

When it comes to doing their chores, kids tend to need some motivation in order to cross the finish line. And what better motivation is there than chocolates, gummies, and other sweet treats?

Set up a chore chart detailing what needs to be taken care of for the week, from cleaning their rooms to placing the custom insulated covers on your backyard furniture. Have a corresponding reward system with treat tiers: bigger chores= more candy they’ll get to enjoy while relaxing in your backyard behind the custom fence privacy screen.
