Stressed about a cluttered and overflowing attic? Worry no more! We have got just the right place for you to keep the items while safeguarding them from any damage whatsoever. An attic or overhead storage space is the perfect place to stock your belongings for any duration.

While an attic may seem like just an additional space for storage, attics require care and attention like any other part of your home. From custom tarps to equipment covers, here’s some tips to protect your possessions and maximize your attic space.

Some Simple Tips and Tricks to Start With

When you’re starting your attic revival, remember these key steps to keep your attic from turning into a cluttered mess.

        • While an attic is primarily storage space, it’s still important natural light and fresh air flowing through. Make sure all vents are open and all windows are unblocked.
        • If you don’t have one, install a proper source of light.  A well-lit attic will help you find your things easily and quickly, and make it easy to identify any bugs, rats, or other unwanted visitors.
        • To prevent any trips or slips, install a handrail on the steps leading to your attic. Handrails will make your attic trips safer and make your attic quicker to enter and exit.
        • To increase the storage area, hang baskets on hooks attached to the roof and add shelves between the trusses and around the perimeter of the attic.
        • Install a small fan to keep the attic area breezy in the summer. Proper ventilation will prevent dust and humidity from getting trapped, keeping your valuables safe.

        Store the Right Items

Unlike the rest of your home, attics lack protection from the elements. Attics are also more vulnerable to pests like termites, insects, rats, and more. Likewise, it’s important to store items that can withstand the elements. Some examples include:

        • Suitcases, storage bags
        • Sports gears and kits
        • Ceramic dishware
        • Unused utensils

Nevertheless, attics are good spaces to store items you use infrequently, provided they can withstand some exposure to the elements. Some items you should avoid storing in your attic include:

        • Food
        • Clothes
        • Wooden Furniture
        • Books and Documents
        • Anything Flammable

Secure items in closed plastic containers

To protect your precious possessions from unwanted wetness and damage, try keeping them sealed inside plastic containers. Sealed plastic containers can also be stacked together, saving you space for storage. Make sure to label all boxes, and use transparent containers whenever possible to identify their contents quickly.

        Protect with Insulated Bags

For larger items, keep them stowed and protected in a set of insulated covers. Designed with sturdy and durable fabric, insulated covers are engineered to extend the life of the stored material. Crafted to keep the heat intact and stop any moisture from seeping in, an insulated cover will keep your valuables safe and sound for many seasons to come.

        Vacuum-Seal Your Clothes

If you wish to keep your winter garbs in your attic storage space, always remember to put them in vacuum storage bags to ensure their longevity. Along with keeping your garments away from dirt and moisture at all times, the vacuum-seal bags will also consume less storage area in your attic.

        Implement Drawer System

A suitable alternative to plastic containers, you can also choose to install multiple drawers in the attic to store valuables. In addition to protecting your items from damage, it also allows for quick access and you could easily pull out the drawer to fetch things without any hassle.

        Organize Your Valuables

While putting away your belongings in the attic for an indefinite period, do keep in mind to group similar items together. Classification and categorization of things will help in creating a clutter-free space as well as save a lot of your time and energy in the future when you return to grab your stuff.

        Use Bug-Repellents

Along with weather conditions and temperature changes, pests and insects pose a major threat to your items stored in the attic space. Use bug-repellent sprays on a regular basis to keep pests from shortening the life of your possessions.

        Perform Regular Checks

Finally, make regular visits to the attic storage to check in on your belongings. When you’re inspecting your possessions, check your items for damage from dampness. Take the time to replace any custom tarps or covers that have taken a hit from the season.

When used wisely, your attic can be a secure and efficient storage area. So stay smart when storing away your items, and you’ll never have to worry about storage again.
